SRW D missions

Event 1: To Step Through to our World
Introductory mission for the SRW D plot. Prior to this, the Chalice will have been called down to the Antarctic research base at the behest of Clifford Gygax, one of the scientists working there. The reason why is because Josh's father wanted both Josh and Rim present for his investigations to finally bear fruit: Felio's about to break through the last of the seals in the ruins underneath the base.

The mission would start with just everyone hanging around the base, but as Felio finally breaks through the seal, it unleashes a tremendous amount of energy, and the first of the Ruina come into the world and start going on a rampage. Leading a group of Belgrandes are Glacies in the Fabularis and Ignis in the Impetus, and for some reason as he crosses blades with Glacies, systems go on the fritz inside of the Aile Chevalier, damaging its Sympathia System and making it that much harder for Josh to fight. This'll also mark the debut of Rim's punchtastic machine, the Strega.

At any rate, as a tremendous buildup of energy is detected, everyone is forced to flee before the base completely explodes, leaving us all fairly confused about what the heck was going on back there.

NOTE: following this mission, Josh will gain mild empathic powers. Not on the same level of a Newtype, and only intuned to feelings of pain or anger. It also, most notably, lets him sense the arrival of Ruina before they make themselves known. The Aile also gets outfitted with an emergency shutoff for the Sympathia System so what happened before doesn't happen again.

Event 2: The Devils Named Ruina
This is an event that'd go best paired with some other canon event where something really, really tragic happened. Essentially, in the aftermath of said tragedy, the Ruina attack us again, more to test our strength than anything else. The leader of this group is Aquila, pilot of the Fortis Ala, and backed up by the agile Angelus machines. This is sorta an exposition mission, since Aquila's a noble and honorable fighter in spite of being a friggin' entity that thrives on negative emotion, and he'll explain some things about them and their goals. Admittedly "make everyone's life suck" isn't that complicated, but it's a motive nonetheless.

At any rate, since this is just a case of testing how strong we are, I figure Aquila wouldn't stick around once things start to turn against him.

Event 3: The Doll of Ice
Prior to this mission, Josh begins to sense that the Ruina are moving to attack some nearby location either close to where we are or where we're already at. And sure enough this hunch turns out to be right when Ignis and Glacies launch another attack.

Ultimately, during the battle Josh ends up clashing with Glacies again, causing their Sympathia Systems to synch up once more, which is potentially a VERY DANGEROUS THING, because pretty much every piece of evidence is going to indicate that Josh could end up turning completely into a Ruina because of that. Still, by being synched up he can see just how Glacies is nothing more than a tool of the King of Ruin; a creation meant to fulfill a purpose and then be discarded. He's ultimately able to instill a sense of humanity in her in the exchange and retain his humanity, which freaks Glacies out to the point she up and retreats. Everyone else is fair game.

NOTE: After this mission, Josh's empathic powers will no longer function.

NOTE THE SECOND: Between this and the next mission, Josh and Rim can pick up their upgrades from some side lab that Felio had stored them with prior to all of this: the Weapons Box so that Josh can use the Geant Chevalier, the Excelsior Ars Nova so that Rim can use the Dea Blanche Neige, and the Ganador. The Ganador's a two-fer upgrade, an improvement over the Aile on its own but it can also combine with Rim's Strega to form the mighty Forte Gigas.

Event 4: The Requiem I Refuse to Hear
The fact that the Ruina seem to have a ready supply of manpower and machines raises the question of where the hell they're coming from since the Ruina don't really get along with anyone. The solution is found in a manufacturing plant they have in some deserted location, and being the awesome people we are, we figure an attack on it could cripple the Ruina's attempts of sowing misfortune through the world.

However, the first hurdle to get through the base is none other than Aquila once more, who puts up some resistance but eventually retreats. With that, we can enter the base and encounter the fourth Ruina General: Contagio piloting the Violaceum. Contagio's also backed up by his own personal machines, the Skullplumes. As the battle ensues, Contagio reveals the fact that Glacies has been convinced to overload the Fabularis and start a chain reaction that will blow up the base and kill everyone in it. Not like it bothers him much since he's crazy and all.

Josh, once again disregarding logic for a girl who's tried to kill him on two separate occasions, decides to play hero anyways and try to convince her to not go through with it. Glacies at the moment considers herself damaged goods; a Ruina that can't fulfill her duties due to all those pesky human emotions getting in the way, and this is the only action for her to go with. Still, as the base begins to collapse due to the damage inflicted during the battle, Josh does convince her... just in time for the Geant to get get attacked by the fifth and final Ruina General who'd been waiting in the shadows: Umbra. The attack knocks Josh out and crashes the Geant and regardless of who attacks Umbra afterwards, everyone has to escape and it seems like Josh is a goner... only for the Geant to come roaring out at the last moment being piloted by Glacies and with Josh in her care. The other Generals still all escape, but the base is still destroyed so the Ruina's plans are forced to put on hold for at least a little while, and Glacies promptly leaves afterwards to sort out what she should do with her life.

Note: Some time after this, the sealing of the Earth away from the rest of the Universe begins as a slow, gradual process. Quite literally, patches of "barrier" begin to form around the Earth where nothing can pass through. They grow steadily every day, and the cause being completely unknown. Still, much of the world enters a panic as people realize they're going to be boxed inside unless something is done or everyone just escapes Earth while they still can.

Notes:
Due to Josh's habit of involving himself with other battles during his time as a mercenary, I am perfectly open to having people from other canons being familiar with him through past experiences.

Background: As the son of renowned scientist/archeologist Felio Radcliffe, Josh spent the better part of his early life looking up to his father and was eager to do anything to earn Felio's praise. He had a strong sense of responsibility and duty, not only to his family, but others close to him as well. Unfortunately, the consumate son began to distance himself from Felio when he saw that his experimentations on his adoptive sister Rim were what caused her to develop split personalities. A genuine sense of cynicism when it came to his father began to set in, Josh beginning to realize how ultimately, his father viewed and used him the same way he viewed and used Rim, as someone to gather information with and nothing more.

In spite of Felio's treatment of her, Rim still maintained a somewhat amiable relationship with Felio, but Josh himself wanted nothing to do with his old man. And so, about two years prior to now, Josh left with Rim and the Aile Chevalier to make a living for himself as a mercenary. Although really, at least in the game, he always seemed to know to pick his battles, at times working to help fight the Invaders from Getter Robo, the forces aiming to topple the Sanc Kingdom from Gundam Wing, and most notably enlisting in the League Militaire to fight against the Zanscare Empire. (At least in SRW D. I'm open to him having at least some experience fighting people from other canons though never taking a big spotlight since it's not his canon, after all). However, shortly before the game started he received a message from Clifford Gygax, a scientist and associate of his father's, to return to the South Pole.

It is here that Josh's story begins...

Personality: As far as Banpresto Originals go, Josh is one of the more complex ones. He's a brother, son, piloting ace, and bro to any number of canons all rolled up into one. Much of his pesonality is shaped by his experiences with his father, stemming from the person he became when he realized what his father really was. His daddy issues are more than just the usual "why don't you love me?" problem and remember, for the longest time he did everything to earn his father's approval. In fact, in-game dialogue indicates that the big turning point was shortly after Josh started to use his starter machine, mentioning how amazing it was to use and then how all the wonder died away when he saw how indifferent his father was to his happiness. Results and data were what mattered to Felio, nothing more. And realizing this, Josh quickly became the man he is today, his cynical view of his father exacerbated by the fact he was partly responsbile for Rim's split personalities and did nothing to cure it. It's this same part of him that ultimately (at least if you fulfill the event flags) chooses to spare Glacies even though every piece of evidence showed that trying to synch up with her would end in nothing good for Josh; telling her to live for herself rather than just exist as a tool for Perfectio to use.

Josh's profuse loathing of his father spills over to include other techies as well, although not to as great a degree. They're in it for information and pilots are little more than tools to get that in his eyes, but at the same time he's willing to sit down and discuss things he needs from them. The previously mentioned Clifford Gygax goes on to be one of his closest confidants in spite of everything, and he's the man Josh trusted to give him the firepower to continue fighting the good fight against the Ruina. With most other people he knows and works with, he's usually a voice of reason and a guy with a fairly level head, being able to do a good job at cooling more hotheaded characters while simultaneously being able to stick up for them when he has a point.

Around Rim, Josh is pretty much an awesome big brother, one who was able to take care of her and deal with both of her personalities equally well. Early on, one of his biggest motives was simply to find Rim after being separated from her, and he had the humility to ask for help from the more powerful allies he had at the time, such as Char and Treize to inform him if anything came up. He took care of her all on his own for two whole years, probably taking up the mercenary gig to pay for whatever necessities they needed, and Rim was also okay with it. Josh also had no objection to travelling around with Rim inside of the Aile, perfectly confident he'd let no harm befall her, and even when she started to pilot he got over his reservations rather quickly. In short he's a big brother who won't smother you in the name of protecting you. He admittedly doesn't understand why Rim is still on at least somewhat cordial terms with his father, but he doesn't argue with her about it either.

Lastly, when in battle Joshua is a total beast. He's got experience, at least in the game, against a whole slew of depraved enemies like the Invaders from Getter Robo and the Zanscare Empire and he never was nervous or afraid going up against a tough enemy. His fighting style is extremely aggressive as well, which says something when the Aile itself isn't quite the strongest ship in the hangar, and he employs a high-risk/high-reward mentality in his fights to intimidate his opponents.

Capabilities and Resources: Josh is a fairly experienced mercenary, and could probably help out as an instructor.

Robot Name: Aile Chevalier
Robot Description: http://www.mahq.net/mecha/srw/destiny/ailechevalier.jpg
The Aile Chevalier, derived from technological breakthroughs Joshua's father made several years ago during his investigations of the ancient ruins located in what was left of the South Pole. Originally meant purely for recon, it was refitted into a close-range fighting machine due to escalations in and around the Earth Sphere, and comes equipped with no uni-tasker tools. The Aile's primary weapon is the Cypher, which pulls double duty as a humble but servicable machine gun and a massive beam saber that leaves all others feeling insufficient. For heavy ordinance, the Aile is equipped with two Impulse Cannons mounted on its back and swing forward when needed. In the meantime, they serve as high-speed thrusters enable it to dash in quickly to strike enemies. And lastly (at least according to OG Second), the shield is equipped with a quartet of short-range beam emitters, enabling Josh to take some of the edge off anything that would try to attack the machine up close.

The Aile uses the Res Arcana, a perpetual motor reverse-engineered from technology found in the South Pole ruins to operate and another ancient mechanism, the Sympathia System, works as an interface mechanism for Josh to use the machine. However, in the right circumstances, the System can have other effects. The machine functions in space and on land well due to a hoverboard mounted in it, and it's strong enough to enable the Aile to stand on the surface of water. And lastly, the Aile is fast. Friggin' fast. It naturally has Double Image in the games.

Robot Name: Geant Chevalier
Robot Description: http://www.mahq.net/mecha/srw/destiny/geantchevalier.jpg
As the battles grow more challenging for Josh in the vanilla Aile, plans are eventually started to provide it not only a means of flight, but bring a tremendous amount of firepower it was previously lacking to bear on enemies. Like the Dendrobium and the METEORs from Gundam, the Weapons Box Hangar (yeah, stupid name, I know) is meant to dock with the Aile and serve as a massive weapons platform. 110 meters in length and more than ten times the weight of the Aile alone, the Geant Chevalier is a nasty machine built for rape, giving the Aile a great deal and taking little away. The Geant provides the Aile with a fairly massive beam blade mounted to its right side, as well as a drill/grappling hook hybrid on its left to capture and crush damn near anything it can get its hands on. For long range combat, the Geant has a pair of high-power beam cannons as well as a slew of blade bits that serve to tear apart anything that doesn't stay in front of the Geant. What's more, the beast of a machine is still agile, capable of using Double Image just like the Aile.

Since it was derived from the Aile, the Geant also possesses a Sympathia System and its Res Arcana. However, due to its immense size and impracticality in some cases, I'm reserving this for special occasions in UG@.

Robot Name: Ganador
Robot Description: http://www.mahq.net/mecha/srw/destiny/ganador.jpg
More like a side-step technology wise, the Ganador is the "Super" equivalent to the Aile Chevalier, something kinda tanky but blue, meant for close-range combat, and sharing a great many similarities though it places more on tanking than dodging. That's still not saying much since the machine also has Double Image naturally. However, unlike the Aile the Ganador outright flies rather than hovers with a gravity control unit. Weapon-wise, the Ganador's primary armament is a pair of dual-knuckled energy spikes mounted in each hand known as the Genocide Cutters. Like the Aile it comes with its own energy blade, the Falchion Saber, although it lacks a gun form. Mounted on its shoulders are the aptly named Edge Blasters, which are used for heavy long-range attacking like the Aile's Impulse Cannons. Lastly the Ganador also stores a collection of short-range explosive blade bits, used primarily to attack an enemy shaken up by a previous attack. The Ganador can also charge itself with energy from the Res Arcana and use its angular top as a means of combat, literally flying headfirst into an enemy to destroy them.

I intend for Josh to use this as his primary machine in missions following the Aile becoming the Geant simply for the sake of being able to bring more firepower on missions without having to bring in a 110 meter long machine of death. Although it can dock with its sister machine, the Strega, to form the Forte Gigas, I have no intention of having it do so unless by some miracle we got a Rim.
